Bold and beautiful: Barristers Block

The Adelaide Hills are home to some of the most picturesque wineries and venues in South Australia, and Barristers Block is one of these must-visit spots on your next trip to Woodside.

It’s rolling vineyards play home to a range of delicious wine varieties including Tempranillo, Sauvignon Blanc, Fiano, Chardonay and Pinot Noir.

When the 2019 Cudlee Creek fires ripped through the Adelaide Hills, much of the vineyard was destroyed, having a devastating impact on an extensive amount of land and crops across the region.

The impact was felt widely across the area, and when all seemed lost, the pandemic threw yet another cruel curved ball at these already affected wineries.

Contrary to popular belief, the family behind Barristers Block aren’t lawyers (nor are they Barista’s which believe it or not is how their namesake can be mistaken!).

In fact, it was the politics behind farming in the nineties and a six-year legal battle to save their vineyard that brought about the name – a clever and distinct nod to the history of the property.

Proving their continued resilience, Barristers Block has become one of the most popular vineyards to visit, particularly amongst families.

Their vast lawns provide space for children to play, with a sandpit, games, and a farm filled with deer, chickens, geese and goats.

Choose your wine and accompany it with a delicious stone-baked pizza or charcuterie board, perfect for a lazy afternoon in the hills.

For those looking to be immersed in the full Adelaide Hills experience, the venue also offers accommodation within The Vigneron Villa.

Functions and events are also welcome, with the property hosting two separate spaces that caters for gatherings of 50 to 180 guests.

Barristers Block has become one of Woodside’s poster properties, not only for its stunning wines, food and locality, but for its resilience and demonstration of strength for its community.

A visit to this bold and beautiful winery, is an absolute must on your next trip to the Adelaide Hills.
