Magill Estate Kitchen to host 12 guest chefs over 12 months

Celebrating Scott Huggins taking the reins at Magill Estate Restaurant and MEK, Housewarming Series is a monthly culinary event featuring 12 guest chefs over 12 months, bringing together the country’s top culinary talent in one kitchen. 

Housewarming Series kicks off Thursday 28 July at MEK, with Jake Nicolson (Donna Chang, Brisbane) joining Huggins on the pass as part of the inaugural event. 

​Diners will explore the rich Sichuan and Cantonese flavours that Donna Chang is renowned for, exploring a five-course Yum Cha-style lunch and dinner against the stunning Penfolds Estate setting and urban vineyard views.

​Flying in from Queensland, Jake has spent the last nine years with Ghanem Group in Brisbane, launching and developing the kitchens at crowd-favourite venues including Blackbird Bar and GrillDonna ChangThe Boom Boom Roomand most recently, Bisou Bisou and Iris Rooftop. 

Prior to this, Jake was head chef at the acclaimed Circa the Prince in Melbourne (since reopened as Prince Dining Room) and has also completed stints at El Bulliin Spain and London’s The VineyardThe Square and The Ledbury.

​Jake will also be joined by Lyndon Tyers, Head Chef Donna Chang and Matt Sharrock, GM Donna Chang and Boom Boom Room.

​Highlights on the yum cha menu include: 

  • Moreton Bay bug dumpling
  • Queensland mud crab dumpling steamed with ginger and shallots
  • Scallop and prawn wontons with aged black vinegar, chilli and shallots
  • Pan fried lamb and cumin bun with Donna Chang house chilli
  • Prawn and wild scampi caviar toasts
  • Chinese roast duck with plum sauce
  • Crispy roasted pork belly with mustard pickled wombok
