For a slice of Serbian culture right on your own doorstep look no further than Kaffana, a cosy yet sophisticated restaurant serving up delicious Balkan delicacies right in the heart of Adelaide.

Kaffana is the Serbian word for a local bistro where you go to drink, share traditional food in good company and be merry. With a welcoming atmosphere and a more than hospitable team of staff, Kaffana is a restaurant that perfectly embodies the meaning behind it’s unique Serbian name.

Nestled amongst the bustling laneway that is Gilbert Place, Kaffana was originally established in 2014 by the Vujic family who previously ran Zorro’s in Hahndorf.

Family lies at the very core of Kaffana, with co-owners and siblings Peter and Nicki Vujic managing the front of house whilst their mother runs the roost in the kitchen. Be sure to check out Kaffana’s Instagram for plenty of wholesome behind-the-scenes clips of Mama’s commentary as she cooks.

Drawing inspiration from years of home cooking and family feasts, a subtle Mediterranean influence has been intricately woven into Kaffana’s extensive menu of entrees, mains, steaks, platters and extras.

The talented chefs at Kaffana have a simple yet ingenious food philosophy behind their culinary practices. By harnessing only the finest ingredients, traditional techniques and slow-cooking processes, Kaffana captures exceptional flavours in each of their dishes that can only come from the heart and soul.

What sets Kaffana apart is their one-of-a-kind traditional Serbian dishes that have been handed down across the generations yet still maintain their authenticity. Offering seasonal seafood, char-grilled meats and in-house dry aged steaks, Kaffana offers plenty of wholesome winter-warmers for the upcoming chilly months that lie ahead.

Fancy sinking your teeth into Kaffana’s signature meats? Then the upcoming Wagyu Steak Dinner is just for you! Chef Nenad and Sommelier David will be guiding guests through an educational tasting experience on the ageing process that gives Kaffana’s Wagyu steak it’s signature flavour. Held on Wednesday 10 April from 6pm, tickets to Kaffana’s Wagyu Steak Dinner can be purchased here.

Located at 27 Gilbert Place, Kaffana is open for dinner Tuesday – Saturday 6pm – late and Thursdays and Fridays for lunch 12 – 3pm.
